Dierk Schäfer
Attorney at Law | Specialist in Family Law | Mediator | Legal Author
I have been a lawyer for over 30 years. Always self-employed, always independent, always there for my clients.
My clients live both in Germany and abroad, many of them in Brazil. Communication takes place in German or Portuguese—either in person at my office in Munich or flexibly via video.

My Professional Background
The focus of my work and my main interest lies in family law and inheritance law. These areas of law run through all stages of life: starting with the formation of a family, parenthood and the birth of a child, through the legal structuring of a partnership and marriage, and also during phases of separation, divorce, and the subsequent reorganization of life circumstances.
Forward-looking planning for the later stages of life—elder law—is also becoming increasingly important, with the aim of ensuring autonomy, dignity, and the preservation of assets in old age. Ultimately, the life cycle comes full circle in the legal structuring of estates, the drafting of wills, and the support provided in inheritance cases and estate disputes.
Many of my mandates have an international dimension. Assets, family ties, and life plans today regularly extend beyond national borders. Sound legal advice therefore requires not only a confident command of German law, but also an understanding of European and international contexts. A particular focus of my work lies in German-Brazilian constellations.
At the heart of my work is always the personal conversation. I take the time to thoroughly understand my clients’ goals, family structures, and economic circumstances—as a foundation for tailored and sustainable solutions.
In addition, I have completed training as a mediator, as the law alone does not automatically lead to the desired outcomes. My motivation is to work together with my clients to achieve good results for them, their families, and their life plans. Understanding and negotiation—the classic methods of mediation—ideally lead to agreements and arrangements that are truly sustainable and work across borders.
Responsibility is a key aspect of my work. This also includes, when necessary, collaborating with colleagues abroad as well as involving other specialists in order to provide my clients with comprehensive and high-quality advice.
